Petrol Price in Pakistan Today — What Changed
Latest notified rates (effective 13 October 2026): petrol (RON 92) is Rs 395.37 per litre, down Rs 2.93 from Rs 398.30, and High Speed Diesel is Rs 396.85 per litre, up Rs 0.61 from Rs 396.24. Both are OGRA-notified, so the price is the same at every pump in the country.
For a 40-litre tank that works out to Rs 15,815 for petrol (Rs 117 less than at the previous rate) and Rs 15,874 for diesel (Rs 24 more than at the previous rate). Diesel currently costs Rs 1.48 per litre more than petrol.
Hi-Octane is deregulated, so its price (reference Rs 415.00 as of 10 Oct 2026) varies by company, city and pump. Use the fuel cost calculator to turn today's rate into your trip, monthly and yearly cost.
How Petrol Prices Are Decided in Pakistan
This petrol price tracker Pakistan drivers can bookmark follows the notified rate, so it helps to know where the number comes from. Petrol (RON 92) and High Speed Diesel prices in Pakistan are worked out by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and notified through the Petroleum Division. The starting point is the international price of refined fuel, usually tracked through the Platts Arab Gulf benchmark, because Pakistan imports most of the refined product it uses.
Those dollar prices are converted to rupees at the prevailing exchange rate, then freight, oil marketing company and dealer margins are added, followed by government charges such as the petroleum levy and sales tax where applicable. The final number is a single national price for each notified product.
That is why a weaker rupee or a jump in global fuel prices pushes the pump price up, and why the price can fall when either eases. Levies and margins are set by policy, so they do not move automatically with the market. Government charges are a large share of what you pay at the pump — public breakdowns have put the Petroleum Levy and related duties at well over a quarter of the retail petrol price, which is why the levy rate itself is often a bigger swing factor than the global oil price in any given month.
How Often Do Fuel Prices Change?
For years the answer was simple: twice a month, on the 1st and the 16th. That changed in July 2026, when Pakistan moved to a daily petroleum price adjustment system — OGRA now works out the ex-refinery price using a seven-day rolling average of international benchmarks and can revise rates every single day instead of waiting for the fortnight.
In practice, the Petroleum Division issues a notification on working days, and a rate announced on Friday covers the weekend — for instance, the rate notified on Friday 9 October 2026 applied from 10 to 12 October. Many days bring only a small paisa-level change, so the reliable rule is to read the effective date and window printed on each notification rather than assume a fixed schedule. This tracker shows them on every price card and warns you if the pricing window we last verified has ended.
Fuel Types, Who Sets the Price, and Other Rates
| Product | Who sets the price | Same in every city? |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol (RON 92) | OGRA-notified | Yes |
| High Speed Diesel (HSD) | OGRA-notified | Yes |
| Kerosene & Light Diesel Oil | OGRA-notified | Yes |
| LPG | OGRA-notified, typically reviewed monthly | Producer price is national; retail can vary |
| Hi-Octane (RON 95-97) | Deregulated, set by each company | No — varies by brand, city and pump |
| CNG | Supplier and region | No |
Other notified rates (last verified)
| Product | Rate | As of |
|---|
Kerosene, light diesel and LPG are reviewed less often than petrol and diesel, so the date beside each figure matters. Confirm on the OGRA website before relying on them.
Do you need Hi-Octane? Only if your manufacturer recommends it, typically for high-compression or turbocharged engines. A car designed for RON 92 gains little from a premium grade, so for most daily drivers regular petrol is the economical choice.

How to Save Fuel: 8 Practical Tips
- Keep tyres correctly inflated. Under-inflated tyres increase rolling resistance and fuel use.
- Drive smoothly. Hard acceleration and braking waste fuel; anticipate traffic instead.
- Avoid long idling. If you will be stationary for more than a minute or two, switch the engine off where it is safe to do so.
- Service on schedule. A clean air filter, fresh oil and correctly gapped spark plugs help an engine run efficiently.
- Cut unnecessary weight. Remove roof racks and heavy items you do not need on daily trips.
- Combine errands. Several short cold-start trips use more fuel than one planned loop.
- Use the recommended grade. Premium fuel is not a saving unless your engine needs it.
- Track your real mileage. Fill up, note the odometer, and repeat — then enter your true km/l in the calculator above.
Pair these habits with the fuel cost calculator on this petrol price tracker Pakistan page to see the rupee impact. Running costs are only part of ownership. If you are financing a vehicle, see our bike installment calculator, and remember the annual token tax on top of fuel.
Sources, Method and Limits
This fuel cost calculator Pakistan page dates every figure it shows. Petrol and diesel figures are the prices notified by OGRA and the Petroleum Division, as reported in public news coverage and price bulletins and cross-checked between more than one source. We do not have a live government data feed, so every update is entered manually and dated.
- OGRA — the regulator that works out and publishes notified fuel prices.
- Pakistan State Oil — the largest oil marketing company, useful for pump-level rates and premium grades.
- Shell Pakistan station price board — a reference for premium-fuel pump prices.
Limits: Hi-Octane, kerosene, light diesel and LPG figures are reference values with their own dates and can differ at your pump. The history chart shows selected notified rates rather than every revision. If you spot a newer price or an error, email us and we will verify and correct it.
